Viagra in the News Viagra Helps Lung Disease Patients Breathe Easier Patients with an incurable lung disease may get some relief from Viagra (sildenafil). A new report from researchers at the University of California, Los Angeles, reveals the drug may help patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis -- a disease in which there is progressive scarring in the lungs and that often leads to a lung transplant. More than 5 million people worldwide have the disease. In the study, 14 pulmonary fibrosis patients took Viagra for three months. They all had a standard test to measure their lung capacity at the start of the study and again at the end. Results show 57 percent of the patients improved their walking distance by 20 percent or more. The average improvement was 161 feet.
